Spring Creek County, established for judicial and other purposes on January 21, 1841, included parts of the future Grimes, Montgomery, and Harris counties. It was named for the creek that ran through its center; the county seat was to be named Greenville. The county was abolished by a Texas Supreme Court decision, Stockton v.
