The county was named for the battle of San Jacinto, which ended the Texas Revolution. County created 8/13/1870 by Texas Legislature out of parts of Liberty, Montgomery, Polk and Walker Counties, organized 12/1/1870 with Coldspring as county seat. The previous San Jacinto District covered a different area and was renamed Harrisburg District and then Harris County. |
