The Republic of Texas tried to establish local government in the region in 1842 by establishing a judicial district in the present area of Fallas County known as Waco County, but later that year the Texas Supreme Court declared such counties unconstitutional. County created 1/22/1850 from Robertson and Milam Land Districts, organized 8/5/1850. format this article to print McLennan County was established by the Texas legislature on January 22, 1850, and named for Neil McLennan, one of the early settlers. The county government was organized in August 1850 with Waco as its county seat.
