San Felipe Municipality established 1828 as part of Department of the Brazos. 15 additional municipalities were created from this area by 1836. Austin County was created 3/17/1836 from Austin District and organized 1837. A region added in the south was broken off in 1837 to form Fort Bend County. San Felipe became the county seat when partially rebuilt after the Texas revolution.
