Mottley County, Texas Post Office Lineage Information Page

Named for Junius William Mottley, who died in the battle of San Jacinto. A spelling error was made when the county was named. County created 1876 from Bexar District and attached to Crosby County for judicial purposes. It was organized in 1891 with Matador as county seat.
