Originally part of Municipality of Washington under Mexico, then Washington County, then Austin County. Named for Edwin Waller, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. 5/1/1873 county possibly created from Austin County, part of Montgomery County and part of Harris County. Handbook of Texas Online says created from parts of Austin and Grimes Counties. Waller County was organized 8/16/1873. Hempstead was made the county seat. -Handbook of Texas Online: Waller County |
