Rockwall County, Texas Post Office Lineage Information Page

In 1836 the area was established as part of Nacogdoches County, and was included in Henderson County when Texas joined the Union in 1845. Kaufman County was formed in 1847 and Rockwall County was in its jurisdiction. Rockwall County was created 3/1/1873 named for the town and curious geological formation, organized 4/23/1873. In 1892 there was an unsuccessful attempt to make Fate the county seat, but Rockwall has served since organization. Handbook of Texas Online: Rockwall County
