Wilson County named for Somervell expedition member and legislator James C. Wilson. Wilson County established 2/13/1860 from Bexar and Karnes Counties, organized 8/6/1860. The Constitutional Convention of 1868-69 altered the boundary between Wilson and Guadalupe Counties and changed the name to Cibolo County but the name was never applied.
