A specialized hobby site for precancel stamp collectors...

Precancels are a whole "other" specialty. We're not just collecting Scott numbered stamps with 'precancels', but if you do, that's called 'synoptic' collecting. Identifying and cataloging these is a detailed specialty in itself. Most precancels are 15 cent items or less, meaning that many of them can be obtained for not much money. It's just a matter of finding out where, since most stamp dealers don't stock them. Specialized information and links on these pages will help you get started. Please attend precancel functions. They are a lot of fun, and the community of collectors and precancel dealers look forward to meetings, regional round-ups, and the high point of the annual 25 dealer PSS conventions in August, held at different cities around the country. All of these functions have tables for collector trading, buying and trading of precancels. Whether you collect towns, towns and types, generals, dateds, integrals, or just want to get organized, join us. NOTE: If you are checking spelling on the website, 'NetMechanic' and 'Websitegarage' don't like my spelling of precancel (which has been in the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary since 1921), or even websitegarage, for that matter. See the Frequently Asked Questions page for an explanation of some of our collecting specialties, acronyms and terms that are not in the standard English lexicon.

The club holds two meetings per year in March and October with mail/floor auctions. Other trading sessions are held as interest warrants. We mail four newsletters per year WITH LOCAL CITY PRECANCELS ON COVER and usually enclose at least two other precancels, most made by members on walk-in precancel trips to local post offices.  The Texas Precancel Club is life branch number 13-24 of the Precancel Stamp Society and life chapter 10-30 of the Texas Philatelic Association.

Texas Precancel Club DUES are collected only from club members (send application with dues and philatelic references to join) to recover postage costs of a paper newsletter. All labor and this website are free. Dues are $5 (U.S.), $6(Canada), $8 (other foreign) per calendar year. Make checks payable to "TEXAS PRECANCEL CLUB". International submissions must be with checks drawn on a U.S. bank, U.S. cash, mint gummed U.S. postage or money orders in U.S. dollars. The website is being paid for out of my own pocket, and extra traffic due to the popularity of the site is getting expensive. Donations for maintenance of the website should be payable to "JOHN C. FOSTER".
