Purpose: In applying for awards for my own site, I see many listed as "Web Design", "Award of Excellence", or something similar.
It is nearly impossible to figure out where these places actually are, especially if there are several different awards with the same name, or different awards are added, changed or subtracted.
Tracking them historically is also nearly impossible. URL changes happen less often, but can still be a cross reference problem. I am logging award applications by URL as I apply for them myself, and also capturing award programs that I myself do not qualify for by checking award indexes and site award sections.
The criteria for this award index is only that the award must be judged, and not be a free or "gimme" award. Award sites with multiple programs or multiple awards only need one link in this index if all can be found. I will also use a home page link if possible, as the name is usually shorter.
Some sites ban "award hunters/Jaeger, award collectors/Sammler, or in one case, award whores from applying. Anyone using this list would already have too many awards and not be qualified for their award. The site is still found as a name with comment, but with no active link. Olympic athletes are not prohibited from competing because they have too many medals from previous competitions. One objection is that their award would be placed on "page 300" and not have high visibility. Since I store awards won by the Texas Precancel Club in rated order, any low placement will be the fault of the award site, not my listing of it. If you want a higher position (lower page number), please make sure that my site qualifies at your higher rating level. I track Award Sites, WebsAwards, Euro Award Index, United Web Site Award Givers, Olymp Award Index, Metatronic Weisse Liste, Award Richtig, Metatron and Hyakinthos for ratings.
The result is what you see here. I am still adding sites, and only have limited time to check old ones. The W3C link checker helps to eliminate dead links. Now that I have a second faster computer, the Xenu downloadable link checker is also recommended, and saves a lot of time. A message to me if you find a valid link to an inactive site will be appreciated.
